After an accident at work, Mr David Gower from Tyne and
Wear contacted us. Whilst working as a commercial gardener, he had been hit in
the leg by a stone that flew out of a faulty lawn mower he was operating. He
suffered a broken right leg, which required him to wear a full leg plastercast
for 2 months. His employer was unsympathetic to his cause, which led Mr Gower
to pursue a claim against his employer. Eleven months later, Mr Gower was
awarded £5,600 plus his loss of earnings.
Mr David
Pyle, 25, from Ilkley, was attacked with a knife as he waited at a bus stop. His attacker
ran off leaving him with a 4 inch gash to his neck and two black eyes. He was awarded
£3,300.
Mr Jason Edmunds, 42, from Bridgend, was awarded
£1,900. He slipped on a marble floor in his hotel in Tenerife,
which was wet from being mopped, damaging his back and right
elbow.
Peter Jackson, 28, from Preston, was awarded
£18,000 after a surgical procedure caused ongoing pain and
discomfort, resulting in a further operation to rectify the error. A pin was
protruding out of his left foot which was left unnoticed.
Mr
Gary Spencer, 33, from Llandudno, was knocked off his bike by a car driver who
crossed from the inside lane into the outside lane without noticing Mr
Spencer's bike alongside her. He suffered multiple injuries to his hip, leg and
shoulder, involving a 4 week stay in hospital. Mr Spencer was awarded
£17,000 plus loss of earnings.
Mr Frank Hope of Newcastle slipped as he was
walking down some steps at a railway station. The roof was in a state of
disrepair, allowing rainwater to fall directly onto the smooth, vinyl flooring.
Mr Hope landed heavily on his back, causing extreme discomfort and ongoing
problems. Mr Hope's solicitor advised him not to accept settlement of his claim
until a full assessment had been made of the length of time his injuries would
continue; Mr Hope eventually settled for an out of court settlement of
£18,750
